How to Flatten PDF Form Fields Before Sharing
Flattening makes supported interactive form-field values part of the page so they are less likely to change or disappear in another viewer. PDF Porter flattens form fields only; it is not a security feature and may not flatten every annotation, layer or signature type.
Finish the form first
Complete every required text field, checkbox, date and selection before flattening. Save an editable copy separately because flattened fields are not intended for further editing.
- Check required fields and calculations
- Remove placeholder or test data
- Keep a private editable original where appropriate
Flatten the completed copy
Select the finished PDF and process it. The tool creates a new copy, leaving your original file unchanged on your device.
Verify in more than one viewer
Open the flattened PDF and confirm that every value is visible and positioned correctly. If the document uses unusual forms, annotations, certificate signatures or layers, also check it in the viewer required by the recipient.
Final checklist
- All form fields were completed
- Editable original was retained
- Every flattened value is visible
- Recipient’s required viewer or workflow was considered
